There are 5 factors to ensuring your instructional content is engaging. Are you using number 3?
You had me at "Hello" ... if your team isn't saying that... you have to increase how "interesting" your content is... I'll give you some tips.
To keep your team members engaged in a learning environment, ask yourself if your content is:
Relevant
Organised
Interesting
Current
Interactive
We’ve looked at numbers 2 and 3 in previous posts (see them linked in the comments below 😊).
Today, let’s look at how keeping your instructional content interesting will encourage learner engagement.
Nobody wants to sit in a boring meeting. And they don’t have to!
There are several ways you can take your instructional content and make it more interesting for your learners.
For starters, try this:
Think about your non-verbals, i.e., your clothing, voice, tempo speaking, posture, eye contact
Use humour and storytelling, add a little mystery to your delivery
Use the 3 hooks of learning: psychomotor, cognitive, and emotional to connect with your learners
You can easily level up your content by changing up your pre and post-delivery as well. Make it fun!
A learner or team member’s level of engagement directly correlates with their level of success with the learning event.
By applying these 5 factors, you can increase your team’s engagement and boost their success.
In the next post we’ll tackle number four, keeping your content current, but first…
