The 5 phases to creating effective professional development materials. Number three: Develop
Letting the fun and learning loose with the develop stage of great team learning ... your team building efforts benefit from these 5 simple stages.
Of the five phases (analyse, design, develop, conduct, and evaluate), so far, we’ve looked at analyse and design.
(If you missed the two previous posts, I posted them in the comments below for your convenience. 😊 )
Now, let’s get started with number three: Develop
The development phase is where you’ll take the plan from phase two, design, and deepen your focus on the instructional aspect.
You’ll also use all the information you gathered from the analysis and design phases to begin writing the actual materials. Nice!
Because you have already decided on your core content in phase two, this phase is all about developing it and hashing out the details.
To elevate your content (and keep your team engaged), consider adding:
Videos
Comprehension Questions
Worksheets
Pictures/Diagrams/Graphs
During this phase, it’s also important to make sure that you test the materials. When doing so, consider:
Possible points of confusion
Ease of use (especially if this course is self-guided)
Navigation, or, whether the learner navigates the materials easily and intuitively
Once you’re finished with the development phase, your professional development materials will be completed and tested and ready for phase four: Conduct.
We’ll talk more about that in the next post.
Stay tuned and see you then!
