Naturalist Learners: Here's how to take advantage of your learning style & increase team engagement
How to increase engagement with Naturalistic Learners a couple tips from Canadian Hall of Fame Motivational Speaker and team building expert Tyler Hayden
As a naturalist learner, you are drawn to analogies that use nature to explore concepts. You relate to cycles, interconnectedness, patterns, and cause-and-effect relationships. Because of this, you are able to visualize concepts in unique ways and offer fresh perspectives.
Here’s how you can use your naturalist learner style to better your team engagement:
Gorgeous day outside? Use it as an excuse to take a meeting to an outdoor space where you and others can get a healthy dose of sunshine and some fresh air while you collaborate.
You’re naturally good at classifying things in their proper place. Offer to take fragments of information and organize them in a way that makes sense so that others can better process those concepts.
It’s important for you to understand why things work, so don’t be afraid to ask questions in order to understand how things connect. Once you have a grasp on how things are related to each other, you’ll be able to use that information more effectively.
Bonus:
Naturalistic learners like you need to explore. While you can’t necessarily hit the hills and explore a new trail during the workday, you can explore new concepts and methods and apply them to old problems.
Ask other team members how they approach problems that are bogging you down and embrace their new perspectives. You might discover a new technique that works well for you!
