How to manage the "NO" person at work ... it's a challenge right? In here you will find some tips and techniques to managing that team member.

Having a person on the team who is constantly negative can be draining on everyone.

This type of difficult learner says “no” to everything and does little to support team efforts and ideas.

They are inflexible, seldom offer solutions, and are quick to point out everything that is wrong with an approach or idea.

Needless to say, the “no” person type of difficult learners can quickly drain a team’s motivation and morale.

So, as a team leader, what can you do to work with them?

  • Confront them individually

  • Involve them in solutions

It is also wise to gently challenge their negative stance. This can look like asking “What if it could work, what would it look like?”

Another thing to do is to make them an ally.

Take them aside and get their take on things ahead of time. Hash things out in private and get their opinions early on. This will give you an opportunity to discuss any naysaying before group collaboration.

Have a “no” type difficult learner on your team? How have you approached working with them in a better way?
