There are 5 factors to ensuring your instructional content is engaging. Are you using number 4?

October 16, 20251 min read

Engaging team building content needs to be relevant to todays issues... don't be that teacher still using overhead slides - provides solutions for now

In previous posts, we talked about how to keep your instructional content relevant, organised, and interesting.

Today, we’ll look at how to make sure that it stays current and up to date.

It's frustrating for team members to have to learn content that is no longer relevant or accurate.

If they feel like what they are learning no longer matters, they’ll disengage.

And it’s up to you to make sure that doesn’t happen.

To keep your instructional content current, try this:

  • Make the learning reflect the workplace (i.e., scenarios, activities, etc.)

  • Read industry periodicals and blogs, and ask for learner input

  • Use private social media groups, micro-blogging, and Wikis to present current data and just-in-time support to your learners

Another thing you can do is demonstrate the benefits to solving current problems. For example, point out that increasing engagement by 10% in just 10 employees is like gaining a free full-time employee.

When your team members can see how the content currently addresses their immediate problems, they’ll be more motivated to engage.

And that’s exactly what we’re looking for!

To further increase your engagement, make sure that your instructional content is:

  1. Relevant

  2. Organised

  3. Interesting

  4. Current

  5. Interactive

If you missed the last three posts, you’ll find the first one linked in my comments to get you started.

Next time, we’ll look at how to keep your instructional content interactive.

See you then!
